Laurel’s Pick of Places to Go – Frank’s Place Jazz and Dance Club

http://slurl.com/secondlife/Franks%20Place/33/189/23/
If you are looking for a great place for formal dancing try Frank’s Place. This is a PG Club but with posted and enforced rules. The rules are formal attire, no weapons, no foul language and must be in human form. Not such a good place for furries but I assume they have good places to go too.
Del and I have had great experiences here consistantly. The music is jazz with some Sinatra and old standards tossed in. I have heard they do feature some music by James Taylor also, who just so happens to be one of my all time favorites. Love my JT! Dances include Ballroom, Tango, Waltz and our favorite Slow Dances v 6 and v 7. Frank’s is an open air ballroom so the lighting is very good for pictures with your date too. Some posh shops clustered near Franks are also worth a look see for formal wear if you feel like a bit of something new. Seldom do you see singles here so it’s best to come with a date. Del brought his fiancee who looks rather familiar…doesn’t she? My sexy Brit cleans up very well for a man who is most comfortable in his favorite jeans. I recommend Frank’s very highly!
Not a Place to Visit – Bogart’s
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Levy/129/80/26/
Bogart’s is not a place I would recommend visiting in SL. First problem is that unless you have a new computer like I do, you will suffer from lag due to it’s over use of busy texturing and over decoration. Yes, it is beautiful but very hard to move around in if there are more than a few couples there. Second, Del and I have been there maybe 4 times total and our last two experiences were very bad.
Tonight, Del was banned from Bogart’s because he used a “gesture”. Some German guy who was ignoring the formal only dress code being in his jeans, t-shirt and multiple piercings complained while he was present dancing with his escort. I assumed escort because his “date” was dressed a all in black in something that covered less skin than a bathing suit. Appropriate clothing for an escort, but maybe not so much for a club that is supposibly Formal only or at least that is what their sign says that offers a free suit and dress for those that might not otherwise be able to afford or have something handy in their inventory. No posted rules about using gestures in this “mature” sim yet you can be banned for it. The German gentleman hassled us but I’m not aware that anything happened to him or his “date”.
Del and I were dancing and talking among ourselves when POOF he was suddenly gone. He IMed me for a teleport back and he got the message that he was banished…no reason given just banished. I tried asking the Manager a Ms. Delish Paine and was ignored…I then asked the hostess Ms Queen Watanbe and was also ignored while she greeted others coming in the door. (Hey Del and I tipped Queen on our last visit even though it was bad too, it wasn’t anything that was her fault. ) Angry and not being able to get any sort of reason despite being polite and calm to the two of them…I said something like ”Ok, since you won’t even bother to answer me I’ll just write a bit on my blog about this so others are warned about this place.” and walked out. THEN they both spoke to me and I found out why Del was banned…even though they said nothing to him at all. Maybe he forgot his press credentials?
If you like laggy places with posted rules not enforced while rules made up on the spot can get you banned…by all means visit but I can’t recommend a place that reminds one of Germany 1939, complete with gestapo. If you like to go out dancing to formal places like Del and I sometimes do, visit Frank’s Place which I will also review.
Finally, the gesture Del used that upset the German with the escort was…”Most expensive piece of ass I have ever had…” Irony isn’t dead at all! I believe that gesture is just from a movie.
