Not a Place to Visit – Bogart’s

Bogart\'s

http://slurl.com/secondlife/Levy/129/80/26/

Bogart’s is not a place I would recommend visiting in SL.  First problem is that unless you have a new computer like I do, you will suffer from lag due to it’s over use of busy texturing and over decoration.  Yes, it is beautiful but very hard to move around in if there are more than a few couples there.  Second, Del and I have been there maybe 4 times total and our last two experiences were very bad.

Tonight, Del was banned from Bogart’s because he used a “gesture”.  Some German guy who was ignoring the formal only dress code being in his jeans, t-shirt and multiple piercings complained while he was present dancing with his escort.  I assumed escort because his “date” was dressed a all in black in something that covered less skin than a bathing suit.  Appropriate clothing for an escort, but maybe not so much for a club that is supposibly Formal only or at least that is what their sign says that offers a free suit and dress for those that might not otherwise be able to afford or have something handy in their inventory.  No posted rules about using gestures in this “mature” sim yet you can be banned for it.  The German gentleman hassled us but I’m not aware that anything happened to him or his “date”.

Del and I were dancing and talking among ourselves when POOF he was suddenly gone.  He IMed me for a teleport back and he got the message that he was banished…no reason given just banished.  I tried asking the Manager a Ms. Delish Paine and was ignored…I then asked the hostess Ms Queen Watanbe and was also ignored while she greeted others coming in the door.  (Hey Del and I tipped Queen on our last visit even though it was bad too, it wasn’t anything that was her fault. ) Angry and not being able to get any sort of reason despite being polite and calm to the two of them…I said something like ”Ok, since you won’t even bother to answer me I’ll just write a bit on my blog about this so others are warned about this place.” and walked out.  THEN they both spoke to me and I found out why Del was banned…even though they said nothing to him at all.  Maybe he forgot his press credentials?

If you like laggy places with posted rules not enforced while rules made up on the spot can get you banned…by all means visit but I can’t recommend a place that reminds one of Germany 1939, complete with gestapo. If you like to go out dancing to formal places like Del and I sometimes do, visit Frank’s Place which I will also review.

Finally, the gesture Del used that upset the German with the escort was…”Most expensive piece of ass I have ever had…” Irony isn’t dead at all! I believe that gesture is just from a movie.

  1. We’ve been going to Bogarts since 2007 and have always enjoyed it.The new place is laggy when it gets crowded but once you’re dancing, you dont feel the lag unless you have a bad internet conn and too many scripts on.
You say the sim is mature and I dont see it mature inworld and i looked in the the banned avatars list and there is no name starting by your hubby’s name (DEL).
There is no Delish in the staff member group either.
Maybe that was a long time ago ?

  3. It happened in May, Bernye so a staff change since then might be possible. Frank’s is just an all around better place because you don’t get the hassles you do at Bogart’s. That is why we go there more often. However, Bogart’s is still listed here in case you do want to give it a try, I just don’t recommend it at all and I recommend far more places then I don’t. We had two bad experiences in a row at Bogart’s so decided just not to go there anymore. So many good places to go in Second Life, that you need not bother with ones you don’t like.
